How it Works

Reader Options Digitool TM Portable data collection system is primarily used for Guard Patrol monitoring applications, however due to the flexibility of the software it can be used in any of the following applications:

  • Guard Patrol Monitoring
  • Maintenance Record Keeping
  • Health and Safety Monitoring
  • Time & Attendance Reporting
  • Cleaning Record Keeping
  • Incident Reporting
  • General Data Collection
  • Substantiating Work Records

The system is based on the world famous Dallas iButton . This is a very robust hermetically sealed stainless steel device that is impervious to most weather conditions. It also contains a unique 48 bit serial number.

The Digitool GC-01 portable data reader can be used to record up to 8000 Dallas iButton serial numbers.

Location Tags (an iButton mounted in a plastic ABS vandal resistant housing) can then be mounted at the locations to be monitored or iButtons can be mounted directly at the locations or on assets using a very strong double sided self adhesive pad.

As each iButton serial number is read by the GC-01 reader it is recorded with a date time stamp in the reader's internal memory.  Creating a permanent unalterable record.

This information is then downloaded from the reader to a computer using the GC-02 down loader.

The Digitool Report Lite or Digitool Call Center software allows a database of the various iButton serial numbers to be created. This is achieved by registering each iButton into the software using the reader located on the side of the GC-02 down loader.

During this process the user can assign a description to each serial number. They are typically catagorised as locations or events in guard tour applications, where locations are physical locations that have to be visited and events are exceptions that occur during a guard tour.

Conversely, locations and events could be used to represent any of the following activities:

Sector

Locations

Event

Manned Security

Site locations that must be visited.

Actions that are performed during a tour, e.g. door locked, door closed or an exception like door forced, window broken.

Facilities Management

Plant equipment locations, e.g. generators, pumps,  aircon units, etc that need to be maintained.

Actions taken, type of maintenance action performed, e.g. PAT tested, replaced filters, etc.

Cleaning Services

Location cleaned.

Type of cleaning process performed. Contract/non contract activity

NHS Trusts/Long Term Care

Ward/Bed Number visited/Patient Name

Action performed e.g. checked blood pressure, checked temperature etc.

As the date time stamped serial numbers are downloaded from the GC-01 reader via the GC-02 down loader, information is then stored in the software's database with the previously defined descriptions.

The downloaded data can then be analysed using the reporting tools within the Digitool application software. These tools enable reports to be generated of the configured hardware, chronological listings of the downloaded information and detailed reports of both basic or complex guard tour routes analysed using regimented or randomized rules. Any of the Reports generated can also be exported to other application for further analysis.

For large corporate customers who have more specific needs we have a number of Microsoft Gold certified software partners who can help with the development of bespoke software using the Digitool Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows direct interfacing with Digitool TM hardware.
